The F118S emerges as a compact pendant subwoofer, boasting an impressive frequency range spanning from 30Hz to 200Hz (-10dB). This purposeful design finds its place alongside the F10 full-range speakers within the Focus series, effectively extending the system’s low-frequency response. A notable feature is its remarkable phase response, enabling seamless integration with both full-range speakers and subwoofers.
Housed within the cabinet is an 18-inch neodymium unit (100mm voice coil), a creation by Precision Devices. The cabinet’s design incorporates a phase reversal technique, ensuring the absence of airflow noise even during dynamic playback of the ordinary woofer. The phase reversal port, with its generous outlet area, significantly enhances the output efficiency of this port. This enhancement leads to a heightened output of ultra-low frequency energy, concurrently curbing nonlinear distortion within the low-frequency range. The high-transient low-frequency driver, in harmony with the finely tuned enclosure, delivers a harmonious amalgamation of low-frequency force and depth, remarkably achieving a peak sound pressure level of 133dB.
The F118S cabinet’s design is grounded in practicality. Ergonomically positioned on each side are twin FANE special handles, streamlining the stacking and manoeuvring of the speakers. Four rubber feet grace the cabinet’s bottom, while four foot grooves adorn the top, facilitating convenient ultra-low array stacking. The cabinet’s construction employs 18mm birch plywood, wrapped in a wear-resistant, black, water-based, two-point paint finish. The cabinet’s black perforated iron mesh, backed with acoustically transparent foam, effectively guards against moisture and dust, ensuring the protection of the speaker unit and guaranteeing optimal performance and longevity.
